Animals Benefit From Chiropractic Too!
September 10, 2018

Chiropractic helped a 14 Year Old Boston Terrier. The poor dog could not stand or walk and came in with a 6-day history of constipation, extreme thirst and generalized weakness. According to a paper in Vertebral Subluxation Research, Chiropractic examination of the spine revealed many areas that were stuck, also known as vertebral subluxations. These stuck areas can effect nerve signals that go to the organs and muscles, which can create many health symptoms. The Boston Terrier was seen for chiropractic treatment twice to work on the stuck vertebrae. The intent was to restore optimal function of the nervous system as an efficient way to help the body heal the symptoms. After one chiropractic treatment the ability to walk independently improved and the Terrier experienced a significant bowel movement immediately after the adjustment.

Did you know that there are Chiropractors who specialize working with Animals? Many will work in Veterinarian’s offices while others have the license in their state to work on animals in their own office. You can watch videos in YouTube of animals getting adjusted by Chiropractors. Symptoms like this Boston Terrier along with many other health symptoms can often be related to the bones of the joints being stuck. Next time your pet is not responding to traditional care, consider adding Animal Chiropractic.

Hard of Hearing?Chiropractic Might Help!
August 6, 2018

Hard of hearing? A faulty Nervous System could be the reason. Here are two case studies and one published study that show improvements in hearing by correcting interference to the nervous system through chiropractic.

According to Vertebral Subluxation Research, a young boy had two hearing tests that confirmed mild to moderate hearing loss. He was falling behind in class and his speech was difficult to understand. Ear tubes were recommended yet during his visit to the Chiropractor he was examined and found to have vertebral subluxations. A subluxation is what Chiropractors look for as they feel for restrictive movement in the bones of the spine or anywhere else in the body. These restrictions send signals that something faulty is occurring. After correcting the subluxations through chiropractic, this boys hearing, speech and school performance improved.

Topics in Integrative Health Care reported a 46 year old woman with neck pain, ringing of the ears and hearing loss. A hearing test showed low-frequency hearing loss, which was worse in the left ear. She didn’t find success with her medical treatments so she sought chiropractic care. After 3 chiropractic adjustments, her hearing and other symptoms were significantly improved. She received 12 Chiropractic adjustments over a 4-month period and following treatment her hearing test was normal.

A study published in the journal Chiropractic & Osteopathy examined the effect of a single chiropractic adjustment on the hearing of 15 patients between the ages of 34 and 71. Interestingly, none of the patients complained of hearing problems, most presented with a primary complaint of neck pain or low back pain. Upon entering the Chiropractic clinic each patient was subjected to a series of hearing tests. After receiving a chiropractic adjustment, the total number of tones heard improved in both ears. In the right ear, the number of tones heard nearly doubled, while in the left ear, the number of tones heard increased by more than 25 percent.

Perhaps this information will open your eyes to the unlimited ways that Chiropractic can help you by correcting interference to the nervous system. There’s always an answer, so keep looking until you get the results that you deserve!

Have You Heard of EECP?
August 2, 2018

Do you have Angina, High Blood Pressure or Coronary Artery Disease? Did you know that there is a non surgical procedure called ECP or EECP, Enhanced External Counter-Pulsation? This fascinating approach takes place over the course of 8 weeks. Each day blood pressure type cuffs are inflated and deflated on the legs in a precise manner according to the rhythm of the patient’s EKG. This pulsation takes pressure off of the heart while helping the body make thousands of new blood vessels that will feed into the heart. EECP is being used for some patients instead of bypass, angioplasty or a stent.

According to cardiologist Dr. Ramasamy, EECP can be used for Hypertension, Diabetes, High Cholesterol, Angina, Coronary Artery Disease and Peripheral Artery Disease. It can also be used if a patient has had a failed bypass surgery, heart attack or heart failure. Dr. Ramasamy’s specialty is working with heart failure patients and he has noticed other benefits of EECP including, lowering blood sugar in diabetics, stimulating stem cell production, decreasing fluid build up, decreasing dementia due to more blood flow to the brain and with more blood flow to the pelvic area this helps with kidney function and erectile dysfunction. He is extremely excited by these health benefits and hopes this procedure will be used as a preventative for many health problems, not just for the heart.

EECP is not well known as it takes eight weeks versus one day of surgery. It also costs $5K out of pocket, yet is a lot less expensive than a surgical procedure. Many patients after open heart surgery have a long recovery and it can be painful but that has not been seen with with EECP patients. There are clinics and hospitals around the country that are set up to do this. It may be worth investigating and talking to your medical doctor with if you or someone you know suffers from Cardiovascular Disease, which is the Number One cause of death in the United States and in most of the other developing countries.

Natural Remedies for Fleas!
July 23, 2018

Are fleas bothering your four legged friends? Consider using non toxic remedies first. This article recommends two homeopathic remedies for itching: Antimonium crud 6 with Arsenicum album 6 twice a day. These small pellets dissolve quickly and can be added to water, food or treats. To help get rid of the fleas sprinkle food grade diatomaceous earth in every nook and cranny of the house: the carpets, floors, bedding, chairs, couch, favorite walking paths, litter box, and even on your furry friend. You will need to vacuum and sprinkle daily until the fleas are gone. If you find this helpful then start early and sprinkle some non toxic diatomaceous earth around your furry friend’s favorite areas before the fleas get any ideas!

Chiropractic for Anti-aging!
July 9, 2018

In this case study, a patient’s telomere length was measured before and after chiropractic care. After 36 visits the blood was retested and showed lengthening of the telomeres. This is exciting as according to an article in Pubmed anything that reduces the rate of telomere shortening helps to delay age-associated diseases and increase lifespan.

Did you know that normally telomere length shortens with age? This shortening increases the incidence of coronary heart disease, heart failure, diabetes, increased cancer risk and osteoporosis. Pubmed looked at the effects of smoking, diet and exercise to see what helps or hinders telomere length. Perhaps with the results of this case study you’ll want to add consistent Chiropractic Care to the list of what helps lengthen your telomeres for a healthier and longer life.

Here is a synopsis of the Chiropractic case. The patient was a 35-year-old elementary school teacher who suffered for 5 years with neck and mid back pain as well as urinating at night. All of her symptoms started after being involved in a car accident. She had X-rays, which showed a loss of the normal curve of her neck as well as forward head posture, blood tests to determine her telomere length and her heart rate variability measurements indicated health risks. The patient received CBP® spinal care including Mirror Image® corrective spinal exercises, adjustments, and traction. After 36 visits she reported improvement in her urinating at night, neck and mid-back pain, and quality of life. The x-rays showed correction of her neck curve and forward head posture. The blood test showed significant improvement in her telomere length and the heart rate variability improved from a health risk to within normal limits.

Essential Oils for Healthy Summer Skin!
June 18, 2018

Want Healthy Skin this Summer while getting Vitamin D from the Sun? Here are 4 Essential Oils for Sunburn prevention and treatment: Chamomile, Patchouli, Tea Tree and Lavender. According to the attached article, essential oils offer anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, which can counteract the sting and swelling caused by sunburns. Using essential oils for sunburn relief is quickly becoming a popular alternative. Today, you can even find sprays and ointments which include essential oils that are effective for sunburn in their ingredient list.

Essential Oils are highly concentrated so always dilute them with a carrier oil or lotion when applying onto your skin. I recommend testing ahead of time to make sure your skin has no reactions. Once you know what works well without any contraindications, then you can use those oils mixed with a carrier. One preventative is Patchouli, apply in a diluted form with an oil or lotion before using your sunscreen. Afterwards you can apply any of the oils singularly or in combination with a carrier oil, lotion or with aloe. You can also put into a bath as well.

I have found it helpful to apply essential oils diluted in a natural lotion every few hours. Recently I got more redness than I realized and applied Essential Oils mixed with natural lotion onto my skin every few hours and slept without any discomfort. I continued to apply the Essential Oils and lotion over the next few days to make sure my skin received the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits of the oils. I used tea tree along with a blend that contains Peppermint and Wintergreen and it felt very soothing. I also take a multiple vitamin that contains Vitamins A and C. According to an article from Dr. Mercola, your cells use vitamins A and C to regulate both light absorption and protection against sun overexposure.

I also recommend bringing a long sleeved top, bathing suit cover up or an extra towel to cover the skin if any redness occurs. Each of us has a different tolerance to the sun and must recognize the balance that is right for us that honors the health benefits of the Vitamin D while also making sure to keep our skin healthy. Be careful and have fun this summer!

Military benefits from Chiropractic!
June 11, 2018

A recent study involving 750 Active-Duty US Service Members ages 18-50 with low back pain, resulted in the reduction of pain and disability plus improved satisfaction of care. These significant outcomes are consistent with existing literature of spinal manipulation involving both military and civilian populations. These results also align with the recent guidelines from the American College of Physicians, recommending the inclusion of spinal manipulation as first line therapy for acute and chronic low back pain.

Did you know that Chiropractors currently are in V/A Centers, Hospitals and private offices on and off Army bases? Some of the goals are to get veterans off of pain medication along with teaching them ergonomics and diet. Acupuncture is another discipline that the military includes as well. Perhaps this study will inspire hiring even more Chiropractors and other integrative disciplines to help the vast amount of active-duty service members and veterans that are disabled and have chronic pain.

Based on this study it’s been suggested that there be true integration of chiropractic care into the military Health Care system. The recommendation is to involve communication and referrals between Chiropractors and medical personnel. This serves patients more effectively and efficiently while providing a model for other integrated Health Care systems involving civilians. I agree with this suggestion and it already exists between a handful of Health Care practitioners and should continue to grow.

No More Leaky Bladder For This Patient With Chiropractic!
June 4, 2018

Fantastic! Urinary Incontinence Resolved after 6 Chiropractic visits. This case study is of a patient who came in for chiropractic care during her second trimester of pregnancy. For three years she had suffered with urinary incontinence after a previous traumatic birth. During that birth, three years beforehand, she had severe perineal tearing and then immediately afterwards was unable to hold urine beyond about a half-full bladder. She also would frequently urinate on herself when sneezing or coughing even shortly after going to the bathroom. During the six Chiropractic visits she received instrument-based chiropractic adjustments to correct misalignment of the bones above the sit bone, the pelvis and the ligaments above the groin. The patient was also instructed on corrective exercises to perform at home.

Did you notice that the incontinence occurred after perineal tearing? I remember years ago a pregnant women came to my office specifically because she did not want to tear during delivery and she did not want an episiotomy. I sent her home with the following instructions which were so successful that I recommend this to all of my pregnant patients.

Every day during the last trimester, massage the perineum with olive oil or coconut oil or any oil that doesn’t cause any kind of allergic reaction. Then follow up with a very warm washcloth and keep it there for a few minutes. This primes the tissue to be more flexible during delivery. Some obstetricians massage this area during the delivery to prevent tearing and if yours does make sure to bring in the oil you have been using so as not have an allergic reaction to any oil they might use.

Along with massaging the perineum, I recommend my pregnant patients get adjusted immediately after birth to release any bones and ligaments that got jammed during delivery. New moms need all the help they can get to give optimal attention to their newborns.

What’s The Best Pillow?
May 21, 2018

What’s the best pillow, is a question that I hear a lot. We sleep nearly one third of our life, which is a crucial time to allow our body to repair and rejuvenate itself. Some pillows are washable and for those that aren’t I recommend spraying them monthly with essential oils that are anti microbial. I love the product from Kettle Care called Robbers Room Mist. Other Essential Oil companies have anti microbial sprays or you can make the spray yourself by using a prepared blend of oils mixed with water and alcohol. The main thing is to sleep comfortably with good hygiene to wake up refreshed and enjoy the day!

This video has some helpful tips for the posture of your head and neck while testing out pillows. It also shows products for those that snore, get too warm while sleeping or who like a supportive edge for their neck. There are many videos online that show a variety of pillows including a European one from Wenatex that costs around $250. It lasts 5 years or longer, has the capability of adding or taking out the stuffing to adjust height and has no harmful chemicals in it.

When shopping at the store, if there are beds there, then I recommend testing out the pillows to experience how they feel as you will know pretty quickly if you feel comfortable or not. If you can’t do that, then check out the store’s return policy and bring a few pillows home. Keep the plastic wrap on the pillows while testing them and the ones that don’t work can be returned. Keep testing until you find the right one for you!

15 Essential Oils For Allergies.
May 14, 2018

Research shows 15 Essential Oils that help with Allergies: Peppermint, Lavender, Chamomile, Tea Tree, Lemon, Lemongrass, Bergamot, Eucalyptus, Sandalwood, Thyme, Oregano, Frankincense, Clove, Rosemary and Basil.

These oils have been shown to reduce inflammatory allergic reactions and help reduce an overactive immune response in the body. They reduce swelling of the respiratory tract, treat coughs, sinus pain, phlegm, clear respiratory infections and relieve symptoms of bronchitis and asthma. Essential oils also soothe symptoms of dermatitis and reduce skin swelling through an anti-histamine effect. To help your allergies use a diffuser or massage onto the skin with a carrier oil. With 15 oils to choose from, start with the oils you gravitate towards and notice what effect they have with consistent use. Keep at it until you find the ones that work for you.

I can attest to their benefits as I often recommend incorporating Essential Oils to my patients and they report how helpful they are. Just recently one of my patients, who has had chronic sinus issues since being a teenager noticed a difference. I recommended that he massage Lavender and Peppermint oils onto his neck and wrists before bed. He noticed that it really helped him sleep and wake up with less congestion. In the past he was having to go on antibiotics a lot even after sinus surgery and wanted to see what else he could do. He started coming in regularly for Chiropractic as noticed that his sinuses felt much better during and after his visits. Along with regular chiropractic care I made sure to have him incorporate vitamins, probiotics, less sugar and dairy too. All of this helped him not have to go on antibiotics again and he noticed even more improvement with consistent use of the Essential Oils. It’s great to see how dedicated he is to follow through with the protocols that keep his sinuses clear. What protocols do you find helpful?
